What Is PEICHE?

PEICHE is a Christian organization which was formed in 2001 to serve home schooling families and local support groups in Prince Edward Island, regardless of religious affiliation. It is an acronym which stands for Prince Edward Island Christian Home Educators

How We Serve

PEICHE's goals include providing support, resources and information to home schooling families across the province. Home educating families in PEI need a clear voice in presenting needs and giving feedback to government officials and other interested individuals from time to time.  The goal is also to make sure that our right to homeschool on PEI is maintained, since families should have the right to make these decisions without undue interference.  PEICHE works in close partnership with the Home School Legal Defense Association to address any issues that could affect home schooling families on the Island. When we work together and support one another, the task of educating our children is a little easier for each of us.

Our History

PEICHE came to be as a result of several homeschooling families who felt that, according to advice provided by HSLDA, home educators should have a 'voice' and presence when it came to dealing with the media and government.  As a result, a board of representatives was assembled and the first homeschool organization in PEI was created. Since 2001, members of PEICHE have represented Island home schoolers at annual National Home School Leadership Conferences sponsored by the Home School Legal Defense Association (find out more about this organization by visiting the "Legal" page under the "Resources" tab of the Navigation Menu, at left). These annual meetings are great opportunities for leaders to network and share ideas with other homeschoolers from across Canada and North America.  PEICHE has also sponsored PEI's annual Provincial Homeschool Conference typically held in the Spring, and manages the production of the KIT ("Keeping In Touch") Newsletter, which goes out free to all PEICHE members as part of their membership benefits.

Benefits of Membership

The yearly membership fee of $20.00 entitles you to a discounted rate if/when  you choose to join the HSLDA, as well as various discounts with local vendors and businesses.  You also get a 'Welcome Packet' of information and resources, a membership card, a one-year complimentary subscription to KIT, and discounted admission to provincial homeschool conferences.
